Visio and mathematics education
Royal Visio offers math and science courses for visually impaired students in six special schools in the Netherlands. In addition, Visio supports teachers who teach math and science subjects that are visually impaired in public schools. For the Euromath project Visio’s expert Annemiek van Leendert is the key person involved in this project. She is an expert in mathematics for Braille students. Supports math and science teachers working with bachelor students, conducts national courses on arithmetic and mathematics for teachers working with such students, and adapts national math and science exams to the needs of Braille students. In January 2015, she began work on the PhD project “Improving the Mathematical Skills of Braille Students.” The experience of this research work will also be useful in this project. In addition, other experienced mathematics and science teachers will participate in the project to share knowledge, experience, and implement and disseminate the tools, strategies, and products developed in Visio’s schools.
